Biography —
Liz Barton serves as the Program Director of Graduate Advising at Jayhawk Academic Advising. In this role, she manages a team of full-cycle graduate academic advisors who support students majoring in Jayhawk Flex, Jayhawk Online graduate programs and satellite campuses at the University of Kansas (KU). With a deep understanding of holistic and appreciative advising, Liz ensures her team builds strong relationships with a variety of student populations and stakeholders across multiple departments.
Her team supports students throughout their entire academic journey at KU, from new student application coaching process, regular enrollment, and petitions to the comprehensive/final exam process and graduation. Additionally, her team collaborates with graduate faculty, departments and students to interpret university policies, provide advising, develop written and online communications, and maintain student records across units.
Liz joined KU in 2018 after over 10 years of experience at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Her passion for advising was inspired by an exceptional advisor who profoundly impacted her during her study abroad experience as an undergraduate student. This experience led her to dedicate her career to supporting college students. Liz earned both her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from UMKC.
