Biography —
Jake Brillhart serves as the University of Kansas' pre-law advisor. Through Jayhawk Pre-Law Advising, he supports over 900 students across KU campus who are exploring, preparing, and applying to legal education programs. Jayhawk Pre-Law Advising is an initiative of Jayhawk Academic Advising.
Before joining KU, Jake worked as a civil rights coordinator for a university assuring compliance with federal and state disability laws and supporting other student affairs initiatives related to sexual violence prevention and student leadership development. There he worked on the institution's Behavioral Intervention Team and Threat Assessment Review Committee and as served as co-advisor for the university's student government. Jake completed his bachelor's degree in public affairs-public administration from Rogers State University and completed his master's degree from Oklahoma State University. He holds additional certificates from the University of Southern Florida, Florida State University, and Oklahoma State University related to workplace diversity management, student trauma, and program evaluation.
Outside Jayhawk Academic Advising, Jake volunteers with the National Park Service sharing civil rights history. Jake is also completing a PhD in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, and his research focuses on current issues in education law and public policy. Jake is currently researching First Amendment issues on college campuses and Fourteenth Amendment issues involving state curriculum laws. He is a member of the American Bar Association and other industry associations.
