Mount Oread Scholars is a high-ability freshman program that supports engaged students and fosters empowered communities.

What is the Mount Oread Scholars program?

The purpose of the Mount Oread Scholars program is to focus not only on the student’s academic goals, but personal and professional development as well.  This holistic approach is proven through retaining our scholars from their freshman to sophomore year, an average of 95% of scholars return with an average GPA of 3.44.

What will the Mount Oread Scholars Program do for me?

Build Empowered Communities

  • Availability of Honors courses
  • Access to Mount Oread Scholars Section of PRE 101
  • Scholar Support Workshops
  • Socials hosted by Mount Oread Scholars Student Board

Advising and Engagement

  • Engage with faculty, staff, advisors, and other scholars during New Student Orientation
  • Scholars will be assigned to the MOS Coordinator, Scholar Advisor, or Professional School for academic advising
  • Receive weekly emails, Facebook, and Twitter updates that promote personal and professional development

Become a Leader

  • Find your passion
  • Become involved in campus activities and organizations
  • Participate in the Mount Oread Scholars Student Board
  • Become a Mount Oread Scholar Mentor

How can I get into the program?

Mount Oread Scholars will begin accepting applications for 2012-2013 on January 15, 2012.

  1. You graduate in the upper 20 percent of your high school class; and
  2. You have a composite ACT score of 28+ or SAT of 1240+; and
  3. Apply to the University of Kansas by January 15 through the Office of Admissions

In January, those eligible for the Mount Oread Scholars Program will receive applications. Students who have been accepted to the KU Honors program will not receive an application. If you submit a completed application form by February 10, 2012, you will be admitted to the Mount Oread Scholars Program.
